For the LOVE of green food coloring

Oh blessed week in the Budge household! Easton has stopped sucking his thumb!!YEAH! Nate's buddy told us that when his little brother was small his parents put food coloring on his thumbs while he was sleeping and it make him stop sucking his thumb. We decided to tell Easton that if he kept sucking his thumb it was going to turn green and fall off. We have tried everything to get him to stop-duck tape, nasty tasting nail stuff called"Thumb, and of course bribery! Easton has been telling us for the last little while, "I will stop sucking my thumb when it turns green!" So late one night Nate and I dipped Easton's thumb in green food coloring. The next morning we were still laying in bed and we hear the water running . Easton was desperately trying to scrub off the green food coloring. Nate playing dumb asked Easton what he was doing. Big tears flowing down his checks, "My thumb turned green dad." We both felt so bad and wondered what we had done. But it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has not sucked it for nine days! We are SO proud of him. He told us the other night, "I feel so good. I feel like I did before I started sucking my thumb." Easton we knew you could do it-way to go Buddy! So for all you parents with thumb suckers go buy yourself some food coloring.

that's the cutest story! I wanted to cry for Easton when he was crying, but glad that the end result was great! Way to go Easton.

Katie that's so awesome!! It's so dang hard to have to do things like that to your kids...we had to play a little trick on Cael to get him off his binky. That story pulls at my heart strings, what a cutie.

I just had to laugh. That is so funny! Poor Easton was probably so scared. But I bet it was hard for Nate to not laugh. I am glad he stopped sucking his thumb though. What a clever idea. You guys are so funny!

Katie I was a thumb sucker and my Mom did the whole hot sauce trick but I never heard of that one! That is very clever! My heartstrings were pulling at me when he was crying. So sad and mean but hey it worked right? Way to go Easton!

Do you guys all think I am the worst mom? I LOVE Easton to death but it came down to having to do something about the CONSTANT (24 hr.) thumb in his mouth. Nate being a dentist was getting worried. I am just still thanking my lucky stars that something worked!

I think it's pure brillance! I'm going to share your trick with a friend who's desperate for some help with her daughter! He'll thank you later- right?!

Katie, I feel so bad right now! I didn't mean to say mean. SO Sorry! I haven't even been on your blog for a month and I say stupid things! I really think you have to do what you have to do in situations like these. I also think that your idea was truly a good one! I will tell everyone who has a thumbsucker this trick for sure! And BTW, H-e-l-l-o you are an awesome MOM!

Ha! I sucked my thumb until I was 8! my dad made fun of me and said when I got baptized I was going to go down in the water with my thumb in my mouth while plugging my nose. I was SO mad at him that I quit right then.
