I'm going to start off saying that ANYONE can run a marathon. If I can do it anyone can. I think anyone should do it because it really is the most amazing experience. I saw all walks of like out there running. I saw 12 year old boys running with their dads and a couple who had to have been at least 80 holding hands! Here are some of the highlights for me:
1. Traveling to the marathon with my friend Tresure and two of her kids. The kids had fun all packed in the back. Traveling is always better with a friend or with your hubbie!
2. Waking up at 4:00 am after talking to Tresure for most of the night and then tossing and turning for the rest of the night! Catching a bus(I've not been on a school bus for years!) that took us up to the start of the race. A I was getting on the bus I ran into a dear friends husband-Tyler Fish. So fun to catch up and wish him good luck.
3. Thank goodness for bonfires-it was FREEZING! We all huddled next to a fire to stay warm till the race began.
4. Watching people run for the bushes, trees whatever shelter they could find to go pee before the race and during the race. Thanks to Tresure we had toilet paper. She carried it on her running belt the whole way. People would comment as were running about how great it was to have toilet paper. Tresure told everyone, "If you can catch me, you can have a piece." She cracks me up!
5. Loving the ICY HOT that volunteers rubbed on my legs more than once. You could run up to them at the water stations and they had tubs of the stuff. They would quickly lather you up and off you'd go running.
6. Having people cheer me on made me feel like I can do this. The cutest little kids that would give you high-five as you ran pass made me feel like a million bucks. Seeing little kids made me think of my own and made me want to run faster to see them at the end. St. George was so supportive and so many families came out to cheer us on.
7. Seeing the finish line made me want to bawl like a baby. I DID IT! A year ago I ran my first 10K and to think now I had just ran 26.2 miles in 4 hours and 47 minutes, I was pretty proud of myself. I almost didn't run the marathon at all. I had been having knee problems and stopped running on it for a few weeks. I tried running again and same thing-killer knee. I thought there is no way I can run a marathon if my knee is flaring up at six miles. So I gave it a rest. I only had trained up to 14 miles but after talking to lots of people and knowing I had friends running it with me -I decided to do it. SO glad I did! I felt so good the entire way. My knee didn't hurt at all. I guess it was all the Tylenol, icy hot and prayers, lots of prayers! Will I do it again? Yes, Yes, Yes! Anybody in?
PS-The only picture Nate took is of me and Cannon. As soon as I get more pics from friends, I will post them.

Katie, I found your blog through everyone else's. Congratulations! That's amazing. So you only got up to 14 miles training. Were you dying after mile 14?
Hope you guys are doing well. It looks like it from your pictures.
Congrats again!
Congrats! What an amazing accomplishment. I am so amazed you guys trained through the summer in AZ too. That is incredible. It has got to feel so good. I am amazed you are already ready for another one. So many people I talk to are done after one. I am sure you and Treasure inspired a lot of moms. I actually was telling Andrew I want to do the St. George next year after reading Treasure's blog (she made me cry too!), and he just rolled his eyes at me. Wish I had some friends or family close to train with. Maybe we'll get stationed in AZ our next two years and I can join the clan. :) Congrats again! That's awesome!
Way to go Kate! I'm so proud of you, what an amazing accomplishment! I WILL do one with you someday...maybe next year... :) would you do it again that soon? You're the woman! Love ya!
Kaite I am so proud of you!! That was fun seeing you down in St. George, you finished in a awesome time. Hopefully i'll see ya at the race next year! Good job again!
I still think you're nuts for running that far. Good for you!
Katie, that's so great! Reading this post brought back so many funny memories of last year. Seeing people run off to the bushes to do their business, the ICY HOT, the bonfires, busses. So fun to read this! You and I almost got the exact same time! It is such a good feeling when you get to the end and see your kiddos waving at you and cheering you on. My sister and I ran the whole way together and both of us started crying at the end. GOOD JOB! I'm planning on doing it next year...maybe we'll see you there. ;)
Katie way to go! I admire people like yourself! I don't think I can do that and you runners make it look so easy! Good job!
I was waiting for this post. Congrats again. That is so awesome. I still don't think I could ever run that far.
